Ingenico Launches Secure Multimedia Powerhouse iSC350 to Kick-Off 99th NRF Show

NEW YORK, NY--(Marketwire - January 11, 2010) - Ingenico, the global leader in secure transaction and payment solutions, today unveiled the Ingenico iSC350, the fastest, most secure and versatile multimedia payment terminal available in the marketplace. The announcement was made at the 99th Annual National Retail Federation's (NRF) Big Show.

The iSC350 features true multimedia capabilities including full motion video over a crisp VGA monitor complete with stereo sound. These features enable high-volume retailers with a powerful new tool for up-selling, cross-selling and strengthening brand loyalty. Built on Ingenico's new Telium 2 platform, it also offers retailers unmatched transaction speed and the full range of payment choices, from contactless "tap and go" to signature capture. The iSC350's top faceplate can be customized with a retailer-unique color to provide retailers with a branded option.

"We're very excited about launching the new iSC350. It's the most secure terminal in its class that is fully PCI-compliant to protect retailers' investment and keep their brands safe," said Christopher Justice, President of Ingenico, North America. "Since this product is designed for the special needs of big retailers such as grocery and department stores, this terminal turns a traditional transaction into a feature-rich multimedia experience that has the power to engage customers in a whole new way. This terminal is a powerful, cost-effective, interactive customer touch-point that opens up a whole new world of payments and promotions."

Building on its proven base of innovative technology and global security expertise, Ingenico has invested heavily to ensure that the iSC350 is the most secure terminal that retailers can find in today's marketplace. The terminal is designed to be PCI PED 2.1 compliant and will come standard equipped with Ingenico's most secure On-Guard™ Card Swipe encryption technology to ensure that every payment transaction is securely captured and processed.

"Retailers are looking for non-traditional and innovative ways to reach and engage customers. In today's extremely competitive environment, retailers are seeking to differentiate themselves in any way possible," said Lisa Shipley, Ingenico's Senior Vice President of Sales, North America. "The iSC350 is the ultimate terminal that truly meets the ever evolving needs of retailers, addressing the increasing pressures and expectations they face to guarantee secure transactions for their customers when cardholders' data is captured in their databases."

With full motion multimedia capabilities, pulling content from either local or web-based sources, the iSC350 attracts customer attention to revenue-generating services and promotions such as loyalty program enrollment, gift card sales, product orders or credit applications.

The iSC350 is also easy to manage, with a range of on-board features that make access simple including a 6-in-1 rear panel for maximum flexibility during installation and a side-mounted USB port for upgrading software and adding new applications. Optional managed services, created around the Telium 2 platform, create easy access to secure web-based services, simplify the delivery of multimedia files and new applications across the full installation, improve management and offer new security options.

The iSC350 benefits at a glance:

  • -- Transaction processing in record time (400 MHz processor)

  • -- Memory upgrade to 32 GB using µSD slot

  • -- A 10% faster software downloading compared to other brands

  • -- Multimedia capabilities to support revenue-generating services and promotional campaigns

  • -- Seamless software migration for current i6xxx series Ingenico customers

  • -- Retailers will enjoy an enterprise document management system that helps control electronic documents and signatures.

"We are confident that our customers will be immediately drawn to the potential of a true multimedia platform for promoting their brands, delivering important messages to their customers and improving the customer experience through a fast and fun checkout," Justice said. "The iSC350 really can help turn the point of sale into a point of affinity. It arms merchants with power beyond payment."

Jersey Gas Stations Charge More Because You Charge More

N.J. gas stations offer cheaper prices for customers who pay in cash

By Danny Teigman/The Star-Ledger

When Frank Gutowski drove by an ExxonMobil gas station in Rockaway recently, he did a double take. On a sky-blue sign high above the ground were two numbers: $2.49 and $2.93.

What caught Gutowski’s attention was both were for a gallon of regular unleaded. Just above the cheaper price was the word "Cash" written in large yellow letters. Next to the more expensive number, in much smaller letters, was the word "Credit." For an extra 45 cents a gallon, you could buy the exact same gas with your Visa or MasterCard.

With New Jersey gas prices averaging $2.53 a gallon, the Rockaway Exxon was offering a better-than-average deal if customers paid in cash. But for pulling out plastic, they would have to pay 18 percent more. That’s another $5 to $12 to fill the tank, depending on the size of the car.

Gasoline and industry experts say the high price of gas in recent years has resulted in more and more people using plastic to fill their tanks, and because station owners must pay credit card processing fees of 2 percent or 3 percent, more of those owners are passing on the extra expense to consumers. As long as stations clearly note their prices, there is no state or federal regulation against two-tiered pricing. The problem for car owners is not only the difference in money, but in these recessionary times, having the extra cash on hand.

"I think it’s here to stay unless it’s outlawed," said David Weinstein, a spokesman for the American Automobile Association clubs of New Jersey.
