MacKay MetersFREMONT, CALIFORNIA--(Marketwire - April 3, 2012) - MacKay Meters announced today that it has partnered with UIC to provide the first single-space wireless parking meter capable of contactless and near field communication (NFC) payments. The MacKay Guardian™ SOLO currently accepts a variety of payment forms including credit cards, tokens, MacKay smart (chip) cards, as well as coins.
"With the availability of contactless credit cards and NFC technology in cell phones, along with MacKay's commitment to its customers, it was natural for MacKay to offer this technology as part of its innovative wireless solution." said Adrian O'Neil, CTO MacKay Meters. "When we looked for companies to partner with, UIC was responsive to our requirements. UIC and MacKay have had a strong and lengthy relationship, so it was only fitting that we build upon that association."
With the integration of UIC's contactless card payment and NFC technology into the MacKay Guardian™ SOLO, the meter will be able to support most major contactless credit cards including MasterCard® PayPass® and Visa® payWave™. Furthermore, the SOLO will have the added convenience of supporting mobile payments apps such as Google® Wallet and ISIS™ Mobile Wallet.
