Braintree Announces International Expansion of Online and Mobile Payment Services

Developers and e-commerce companies in countries around the world will be able to rapidly launch and scale online and mobile businesses with world-class technology and support
CHICAGO--()--Braintree (https://www.braintreepayments.com), the fastest growing payments platform for online and mobile commerce, announced today that it is expanding its payments platform internationally to help digital companies in every part of the globe launch, support, and scale successful online and mobile businesses. Merchants of all sizes in thirty countries will soon be able to access the same Braintree infrastructure and payment gateway as their U.S. counterparts, realizing benefits including fast integration and time to market, white glove customer service, and proven scalability. Braintree will offer access to its international payment services in private beta over the next few months, with a full launch planned for third quarter of this year.
“We’re answering the call of our customers and thousands of start-ups around the world for a truly global online and mobile payments solution. We will help e-commerce businesses and startups around the world launch, support, and scale successful businesses while giving our existing U.S. customers new ways to expand overseas.”
With its international expansion, Braintree will remove barriers to launching a business that have plagued e-commerce startups around the world. In the past, merchants outside the U.S. have lacked viable options or updated technology for online payments, making it difficult to get their businesses off the ground. Most international payment options are provided by local processors that often use outdated legacy platforms.
“Online entrepreneurship is one of the most powerful forces for growth in today’s global economy. Braintree disrupted the payments industry in the U.S. by making payments easy for developers to integrate in minutes rather than months. We’re now disrupting the global payments industry by providing international start-ups with the same technology available to the best U.S. and multi-national e-commerce merchants,” said Bill Ready, CEO of Braintree. “We’re answering the call of our customers and thousands of start-ups around the world for a truly global online and mobile payments solution. We will help e-commerce businesses and startups around the world launch, support, and scale successful businesses while giving our existing U.S. customers new ways to expand overseas.”
Allowing U.S. and multi-national companies to accept payments in more than 130 currencies, Braintree currently processes more than $4 billion in credit card transactions each year, including nearly $1 billion in mobile payments. The company’s client list includes numerous influential technology companies, including LivingSocial, 37signals, OpenTable, Fab.com, GitHub, Airbnb, Heroku, Engine Yard, Animoto, Shopify, and HotelTonight.
Braintree is expanding its full-stack payment platform into dozens of countries, including the United Kingdom, European Union, Australia, and Canada. A full list of countries can be viewed on Braintree’s international payment processing page on their website. International clients will gain instant access to Braintree’s developer sandbox, vault credit card storage system, and world-class customer service. This expansion will take place in the next few months. Support for local, non-credit card payment methods will be added in the coming year, and Braintree will expand into additional countries in the near future. Merchants can sign up to be notified when Braintree’s payment solutions will be available in their country.
