Datacard Group Announces Software Upgrade Package for U.S. Card Issuers to Easily Become EMV® Compliant

New Technology Upgrade Leverages the Proven Datacard® Software and Offers Issuers an Easy Migration Path for Smart Card Programs
MINNETONKA, Minn.--()--Datacard Group, the world leader in secure ID and card personalization solutions, today announced the availability of a software upgrade package that will help U.S. card issuers utilizing the Datacard® CardWizard® issuance software to easily migrate to EMV® compliant smart card programs.
“With the rapid issuance and acceptance of EMV compliant cards throughout the world, as well as Visa and MasterCard announcing their plans to accelerate EMV technology migration in the U.S., it is important for card issuers to be ready to offer this technology in their card portfolios”
Building on the strength of the CardWizard software as well as its Datacard® Affina® smart card software, the EMV technology upgrade package includes a phased approach, providing Datacard Group customers the ability to affordably integrate smart card personalization into their existing card issuing environments.
The first phase of the EMV technology package includes upgrading to the current CardWizard software server and key management software, as well as installing a hardware security module (HSM) provided by SafeNet, Inc, a global leader in data protection. The software upgrade along with SafeNet’s HSMs will help customers meet worldwide standards and requirements for EMV compliant card programs, as well as compliance with Visa® and MasterCard® security recommendations.
The second phase of the technology upgrade package includes onsite installation, a workshop that gives the introduction to EMV technology and an overview of the migration fundamentals, as well as the complete EMV technology script development and management.
“With the rapid issuance and acceptance of EMV compliant cards throughout the world, as well as Visa and MasterCard announcing their plans to accelerate EMV technology migration in the U.S., it is important for card issuers to be ready to offer this technology in their card portfolios,” said Ron Zanotti, vice president, financial instant issuance for Datacard Group. “Those that implement this EMV technology upgrade now will be in a prime position to offer EMV compliant cards when needed, thereby increasing cardholder service and satisfaction levels and easily meeting the industry’s 2015 compliance timeline.”
Currently, Datacard® solutions issue millions of smart cards everyday worldwide and the company has more than 300 EMV technology solutions implemented globally utilizing the Datacard Affina software platform. Datacard Group can also help educate and provide comprehensive consulting services on the technology.
Uniquely positioned in the market to help financial institutions design any card issuance program that fits their needs, Datacard Group offers a Secure Issuance Anywhere™ platform, which provides customers the flexibility to issue cards and credentials anytime, anywhere, with complete security. This integrated platform includes scalable and flexible hardware, software, supplies and global support–combining central issuance or instant issuance, as well as emerging NFC mobile issuance and EMV compliant programs into a single, integrated solution.

According to Bloomberg, Bank of America Corporation(BAC) will shell out $738 million as compensation to retailers for a lawsuit alleging the company, along with other card companies, of charging excess debit and credit card fees. This forms a part of the largest antitrust litigation settlement in the U.S. history.

Back in 2005, about 7 million merchants had charged card companies and several big banks with fixing prices and unduly increasing processing or interchange fees on transactions made through debit and credit cards. The settlement is aimed to resolve this multi-state U.S. merchant lawsuit.

Infineon Releases Development Kit for NFC Tag Applications

Toolset Available to North American Developers Creating Apps for NFC-Equipped Smartphones

Milpitas, Calif., August 7, 2012–Infineon Technologies (FSE: IFX / OTCQX: IFNNY) today announced release of a NFC tag application developer kit for the North American market. Developers of smartphone apps can use the kit for design and test of information exchange applications based on NFC Forum Type 2 Tag technology.

One key category of applications for NFC (Near Field Communications) technology is based on the ability to create “Tap and Use” applications that link between a mobile device and tags embedded in objects. The tags require no attached power source and respond to the RF energy emitted by an NFC-radio device within a 10 cm range. Programmed with a short message or URL pointer to a website, embedded tags can be used to make signs and posters in retail environments “smart” and provide easy check-in to locations for consumer-oriented services.

The number of smartphone users that can access these types of applications is expected to sky rocket in the next few years, with estimates that NFC-capable smart phone shipments will rise from 80 million in 2012 to 900 million in 2016 (Source: IMS Research, Jan. 2012). Infineon’s development kit for tag applications will help fuel innovation in this growing NFC ecosystem.

Infineon’s NFC Application Developer kit includes SLE66 R01 Series NFC tags in two form factors and a SLE 66R32 in a card form factor, programming information and application notes. Tags have either 128 byte or 2kbytes of usable memory (as defined for NFC Forum Type 2 Tag operation). Priced at $99, the kit is available through Infineon ‘s distribution partner: http://www.em.avnet.com/en-us/design/drc/Pages/Infineon-NFC-Tag-Developer-Kit.aspx

Infineon offers a portfolio of NFC Forum compliant tag solutions with usable memory sizes ranging from 128 bytes usable to 2 kbytes. Chips in the My-D Series include devices that support secured memory to protect data. In large volumes, My-D Series chips range in price from approximately 10–30 cents, depending on memory size and any security implementation. More information regarding Infineon’s NFC product portfolio is available at, http://www.infineon.com/NFC.

About Infineon

In the 2011 fiscal year (ending September 30), the company reported sales of Euro 4.0 billion with close to 26,000 employees worldwide. Infineon is listed on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange (ticker symbol: IFX) and in the USA on the over-the-counter market OTCQX International Premier (ticker symbol: IFNNY).
